Moksha Akil is a freelance multimedia artist from New York. Her background lies within movement and photography. She has created three long form works for CoLab Performing Arts Collective, and is currently working on a piece questioning the role of disembodiment within movement. Her pieces center improvisational movement and dancer-led processes.
As a photographer, Moksha favors movement photography, often shooting with her fellow dancers to examine the dynamics of the dancer body with a physical lens. She has worked with the MaMa Project, Candice Hoyes, and Ratrock Magazine. She has begun to enter movement-based filmmaking, and is eager to learn more.
Moksha is currently pursuing a dual B.A in History and Dance and a minor in English at Barnard College. She is based in NYC.
